This award recognizes an East African based third level institution, technical training college or organization that can best demonstrate excellence in the delivery and development of knowledge or skills in the maritime sector. The entity must have made a significant contribution to maritime training and education, particularly in the areas of freight forwarding, shipping, vessel crew (navigation, engineering and others), shore-side personnel, technical and business conversion, or relevant academic fields.
Educational and training institutions
The judges will be looking for clear information backed by facts responding most appropriately to the criteria listed below.
§ Outline the size and nature of your organization.
§ What is the curriculum or program?
§ Detailed curriculum development, course accreditation, affiliation and student numbers broken down by course being undertaken. How did the course prepare or develop the students for their career in the marine or maritime sector?
§ Outline of how the training or educational institution contributes to marine or maritime safety improvement.
§ Excellence in the education of students: provide examples where an individual or the institution has gone beyond curricular requirements to communicate and facilitate the teaching of students in any aspect of the marine or maritime sector.
§ Exposure of the students to the wider marine and maritime community: this can include listings of invited speakers, details of site visits to research, industrial or other marine/maritime institutions nationally and globally
§ Provide details on dissemination of studies to the broader community: this can include publications, workshops, initiatives involving the community and student awards or details of any competitions entered and prizes attained
§ Include any other facts or statements that you feel are relevant to support the entry where possible.
